How to ensure reliable electricity supply in urban areas?
_
ENGIE is active in Africa all across the energy value chain, from centralized to decentralized generation and through energy-related services to all kind of customers. In particular, ENGIE is committed to improve access to energy throughout the continent.
On the one hand, more than 600 million people live in areas not covered by the national electricity grid. ENGIE is very active on that front and is already providing clean and reliable electricity to more than 1 million people thanks to innovative solutions such as solar home systems and mini-grids in rural areas.
On the other hand, many households and businesses suffer from poor electricity quality and experience outages and curtailment on a regular basis, despite having access to the national electricity grid. To cope with this situation, the conventional backup solution consists in portable and standby diesel generators, which are non-sustainable, polluting, hazardous and expensive due to fuel and high maintenance costs. Another solution consist in UPS, although those systems tend to be expensive and only cover electricity for short-time curtailments. ENGIE wants to change that and to offer clean and reliable energy solutions to all kind of customers across Africa.
We’re searching solutions to improve the quality of electricity supply to grid-connected customers in a sustainable, affordable and profitable way.
You should propose either a technology (hardware and/or software) or an innovative business and operational model in order to provide services helping customers to cope with unreliable electricity supply.
